Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The district administration on Wednesday recommended strict disciplinary action against four students of Government Holkar Science College after a probe confirmed their involvement in a disruptive protest on the institute campus.
Following the district administration recommendation, the college has convened a meeting of disciplinary committee, which will take action into the matter, on Thursday.
Earlier, the college banned entry of the four students, who district administration named as the ones leading the protest, till further orders. They were identified as Aalekh Dwivedi, Piyush, Sachin Rajput and Sana.
On the other hand, ABVP expelled two of its members who were among the four students. The controversy erupted after the college administration removed posters regarding holding of Holi Fest, which included a DJ party and rain dance, as they were put up by students without official permission.
Angered by this move, a group of students staged a demonstration and locked the doors of Yashwant Hall, where a meeting chaired by principal Anamika Jain was underway. Nearly 150 teachers were in the hall when the protest escalated and students cut off the electricity supply to the hall leaving the faculty members trapped and distressed.
Police were called to the scene and managed to control the situation. Following the incident, the principal lodged a complaint with collector Asheesh Singh, prompting an investigation by additional collector Rajendra Singh Raghuvanshi.
The investigation report confirmed that the students had organised the protest in response to the removal of unauthorised posters. It also established that they were directly responsible for locking the doors and cutting off the power supply. The district administration deemed the act a clear case of indiscipline and recommended strict disciplinary action against the quartet.
ABVP distances itself from the incident
In response to the incident, the ABVP secretary Lavish Jadhav condemned the students’ actions stating that the organisation does not support such disruptions. ABVP leader Ritesh Patel announced the immediate expulsion of Aalekh Dwivedi and Sachin Rajput from the organisation due to their involvement in the protest.
