Mumbai: A shocking incident occurred in the Shivaji Nagar, Govandi area, where a 38-year-old woman assaulted a 5-year-old girl, causing injuries by burning her with a hot iron rod. The dispute arose after the girl allegedly hid the woman’s pet cat.
The incident occurred on January 2, around 11 AM, at Plot No. 25, Road No. 1, Shivaji Nagar, Govandi. Sohail Mohammad Talim Sheikh (26), a cab driver and neighbor, lodged a complaint with the Shivaji Nagar police station. The girl’s parents, who have been residing in Shivaji Nagar, Govandi for the past three months, had left the 5-year-old girl in the care of the neighbor. While at the neighbor’s house, the girl was left in the care of another neighbor, named Nishad, where the horrific incident occurred.
The police informed that the accused woman, Nishad Mohammad Umar Sheikh (38), had been living in the area for the past five to six years. The accused became enraged after the girl hid her pet cat. In her anger, Nishad hit the child on the head with an iron rod, causing an injury, and then used a heated iron rod to burn the girl’s right leg.
The police have reported that the 5-year-old girl was treated at Shatabdi Hospital and discharged, and her condition is now stable.
A case has been registered at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station. The accused woman has been arrested, and a notice has been issued under the relevant sections of the BNS Act. The case has been registered under Section 118(1) of the BNS Act and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, 2015.
