Navi Mumbai: Turbhe police has booked truck driver for slapping a traffic police constable after he was fined by the cop for using mobile phone while driving.

The incident took place on Sunday evening at the Indira Nagar square in Turbhe MIDC, where a truck driver, upset after receiving a fine through an e-challan from traffic police for talking on the mobile phone while driving, slapped the traffic police officer.

The driver, identified as Aditya Yadav (34), was fined for speaking on the phone while driving a 16-wheeled truck from Mahape towards Belapur. The Turbhe MIDC police filed a case against him for obstructing official work and assaulting the police officer.

The complainant, Police Constable Jaywant Patil (38), works with the Turbhe Traffic Branch and was on beat marshal duty on Sunday along with Police Head Constable Pankaj Pawar. They were patrolling near the Nivara Circle in Indira Nagar.

Around 6:30 PM, while they were on duty, they stopped the truck driven by Aditya Yadav, who was speaking on the phone. The traffic police fined him Rs 4500 through the e-challan machine for using the phone while driving and not carrying his driving license. After this, Constable Patil handed him the e-challan receipt.

Yadav, angered by the fine, slapped Patil. Following this, the traffic police detained him and filed a complaint against him at the Turbhe MIDC police station. “We have booked him for obstruction of duty of the government officer and further investigations are on,” a police officer from Turbhe MIDC police station said.
