Mumbai: The crime branch unit 2 have arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly selling SIM cards without completing the mandatory know your customer (KYC) procedure. The accused, Yusuf Ali Syed from Antop Hill, was nabbed on Friday near the Mankhurd railway station after the police laid a trap using a decoy customer.
Based on a tip-off, the crime branch learned that Syed was selling SIM cards at high prices without following the procedure. According to the FIR, he would simply take an iris scan of the customer and give the SIM for Rs 500 per card without proper documentation.
On May 16, the police sent a decoy customer and allegedly caught Syed red-handed while taking Rs 500. He was found in possession of around 150 SIM cards, said the police, adding that he has been booked for forgery and fraud.
