Mumbai: A 32-year-old woman died allegedly by suicide, hanging herself in her house after recording a video claiming the names of her boyfriend and his relatives for taking the extreme step, the police said.

The accused have been identified as Sachin Shashtri, Ravi Shashtri, and Pooja Waghmare, residents of Ulhasnagar. The deceased has been identified as Suman Shendge, 32, a resident of Kalyan Taluka. As per the FIR, a complaint was filed by the deceased’s mother at Kalyan Taluka police station on Saturday.

According to the FIR, the complainant stated in the complaint that Sachin had a romantic relationship with Suman for the last ten to fifteen years. He used to come to my house to meet my daughter. He allegedly promised to marry her but later refused by making excuses. Following this, both had a dispute, and later he allegedly assaulted her by using abusive language.

Sachin’s sister Pooja and brother Ravi allegedly used abusive language or threatened by mentioning that Sachin will marry another girl, but not you. Sachin used to come to my house and meet my daughter, and he promised to marry her despite having tied the knot with another girl five years ago, according to the FIR.

On February 28, the deceased went to Sachin’s home to meet him, where he assaulted her. Following this, she returned home and committed suicide by hanging herself with a dupatta from the ceiling. The complainant arrived home and found her hanging, alerted the family members, and she was immediately taken to Central Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

The police said a case was registered against them under section 108, 3(5) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita.

Suresh Kadam, Senior Police Officer, said, “We discovered a video that was recorded by the deceased before committing suicide. In the video, she accuses or blames three persons for committing the extreme act. We have arrested Sachin and Pooja, produced them in court, and remanded them in police custody for three days. However, Ravi was arrested on Saturday evening. Further investigation is ongoing.”
