Shantinagar Police in Bhiwandi book a man for allegedly pronouncing triple talaq and dowry harassment | Representational Image

Thane: The Shantinagar Police booked a 30-year-old man who allegedly pronounced triple talaq to his wife in Bhiwandi. No arrests have been made yet.

The police said the accused has been identified as Shakir Momin. The police said that as per the FIR, the accused and his family members, including his mother, sister, and brother-in-law, were involved in harassing the victim since her marriage.

The accused, Shakir, frequently demanded Rs 50,000 as dowry from his wife. He allegedly assaulted her following domestic issues and threatened to kill her if his demands were not fulfilled.

The police said that the incident took place in KGN Chowk in Shantinagar, Bhiwandi, between March 6, 2022, and December 12, 2024. He pronounced triple talaq in an illegal manner. The victim approached the police station to file a case.

Ravindra Avhad, a Police Sub Inspector from Shantinagar Police Station, said, “The harassment of the victim started in 2022 by the husband and in-laws. We lodged a case and an investigation into the matter is ongoing. The accused have not yet been arrested.”

A case was filed by the victim under sections 85, 115(2), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the relevant sections 3 and 4 of The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.
