Thane: After fifteen days of the murder, the Kalyan Police solved the murder case of a 60-year-old elderly woman, where unknown burglars looted her gold ornaments worth Rs 1 lakh.
The Khadakpada Police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly murdering a woman and looting gold ornaments to start a new business in Kalyan. The accused has been identified as Chand alias Akhtar Shaikh, 30, a resident of Navnath Colony on Ambivli Road in Kalyan.
The incident was reported from Ambivli on Thursday night. The decased is identified as Rajani Chandrakant Patkar resided with her husband and daughters in Siddhi Vinayak Chawl in Atali. She was alone at home at the time of the incident. The family found her injured when they returned in the night.
The police were informed and she was rushed to a hospital where she died during treatment. The police said the family reported that her mangalsutra, earrings, and jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh were missing. Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende said they have formed five teams, who are checking the nearby CCTV cameras.
Amarnath Waghmode, Senior Police Inspector from Khadakpada Police Station, said, “Based on a tip-off, we detained the accused, Chand. Upon questioning him, he confessed to his crime. During the investigation, it was revealed that Chand wanted to start his new momos business in the locality and hence needed money. He made a recce of her home to determine her routine for executing the offense. He approached her home and asked for water to drink. Following this, she went into the kitchen to get water while he entered the home, locked the door from the inside, and turned up the volume. After this, she started a heated argument with him. He allegedly strangled her to death. Later, he decamped with her mangalsutra and earrings, worth Rs 1 lakh.”
