You might have come across stories of people going miles long to meet their love. Recently, a whale too travelled a record distance likely to find a mate. After being spotted in 2013 in Pacific Ocean, a male humpback whale was sighted swimming in the waters of the Indian Ocean in Africa in 2022.

In a similar case, a tiger was reported travelling kilometres long to reunite with its former mate. The Siberian tiger walked 200 kms across Russia nearly on a span of three years.

IAS officer Supriya Sahu, who previously served as the ACS Environment Climate Change & Forest, took to social media sharing the case of the tiger’s long journey to meet its love and former mate. She captioned her post, “If Humans Can Go Miles for Love, So Can Tigers”.

Viral story of tigers Boris and Svetlaya

Sahu informed netizens that the tiger identified as Boris which travelled miles long on the lands of Russia to reunite with its former mate Svetlaya, was a rescued infant which was raised along with the other tiger.

“Raised together in a semi-wild environment, scientists prepared them for life in the wilderness, limiting human interaction”, she wrote noting that the two tigers were then separated over 100 miles apart.

Now, years later, one of the tigers walked kilometres long to reunite with the other tiger with which it shared its childhood. Defying all odds, Boris went on a long journey that concluded with the reunion of the two tigers.

The extraordinary 120-mile journey saw Boris reuniting with Svetlaya. Their heartfelt reunion in the wild led to a new chapter, as six months later, Svetlaya gave birth to a litter of cubs. A powerful reminder that love and resilience transcend species”, Sahu said on X while sharing a photo of their reunion online.
