Mumbai: A 32-year-old veterinary doctor from Raigad fell victim to a scammer posing as an army official seeking vaccination services for Army dogs.
About The Scam
According to police reports, the incident occurred on December 29 when the victim received a phone call from an individual claiming to be associated with the Indian Army. The caller inquired about vaccinating 25 dogs at the Army campus in Alibaug and requested details regarding the expenses. The victim quoted Rs 900 per dog for the vaccinations.
The scammer also shared his bogus Army canteen smart card photograph with the victim on WhatsApp in order to gain his trust. The scammer then persuaded him to share OTPs received on his phone under the pretense of processing payments. Once the OTPs were shared, the fraudster carried out multiple unauthorized transactions, siphoning Rs 3.87 lakh from the victim’s bank accounts.
Realising he had been duped, the victim approached the police and registered a case on Thursday. The Raigad police have filed the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and IT Act.
