According to preliminary reports, the victim, identified as Mehak Khatun Shaikh, suddenly emerged from the roadside while the bus was moving through Rajendra Nagar. The child came into contact with the front left tyre of the bus, which tragically ran over her head.
A police officer stated, “The bus was stopped at a signal. Mehak and her brother were crossing the road. Mehak was touching the bonnet while passing in front of the bus. At the same time, the signal turned green. As the child was very short, the driver could not see her and began moving the vehicle slowly. The driver was brought to the police station, and as per the law, we have filed an FIR against him.”
The bus was operated by Prakash Digambar Kamble, a 48-year-old driver appointed by the Daga Group. There was no conductor on board at the time of the incident, as the point-to-point service was being operated without a conductor.
