Thane: Three policemen, including an Assistant Police Inspector from the Mumbai Police, have suffered injuries after a group of 20 Iranians attacked them by pelting stones in the premises of Ambivli railway station on Wednesday night.

The police said that the MIDC police in Andheri East had come to Irani Basti, located near Ambivli railway station, to catch a 20-year-old chain snatcher who was suspected in a case when a group of 20 Iranians pelted stones at them at Ambivli railway station.

The incident took place at Ambivli railway station in Kalyan at 9:40 PM when the police caught one suspect in a chain snatching case from Irani Basti and took him to the railway station and heading to Mumbai for investigation. Relatives and locals from the basti approached the railway station. They all entered the railway premises and went onto the railway track, allegedly attacking the police by pelting stones at them.

Following this incident, a tense situation was depicted in the viral video. Meanwhile, one video has gone viral on social media in which it can be seen that four to five people are on the railway track, taking stones from the track and allegedly pelting them at the policemen.

However, Assistant Police Inspector Yaswant Palwe from MIDC Police Station and two other police officers-Hanumant Pujari and Sunil Lokhande have suffered bodily injuries. They were all taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and later discharged. Police sources said that in relation to a case filed at the MIDC Police Station, a team of 15 police personnel including three Inspector was investigating the matter in the Irani area of Ambivli. They caught Onu Lala Irani and took him to the railway station, where the mob from Irani gradually gathered and allegedly attacked them.

The police said that they caught Onu Lala Irani, 20. Over 20 people, including large numbers of Irani woman and minor, unlawfully gathered at the railway station. They created a disturbance on the station premises after pelting stones at the police team.

Following this, the accused Onu Irani managed to escape from police custody. Meanwhile, the railway office was damaged by the stone pelting. Therefore, a case was filed at Khadakpada police station.

Senior Police Inspector Amarnath Waghmode from Khadakpada police station confirmed that a team of MIDC police had come to the Irani area to search for the accused. They found one accused in the case and took him for inquiry when they were all attacked by the accused. So far, four accused have been arrested and five juveniles have been identified.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Atul Zende, Kalyan zones said, “We have arrested four accused. A case was registered against over 20 people’s. We are carrying out further investigation into the matter. A case was registered under sections 109(1), 132, 121(1), 189(2), (3), (5), 262, 263, 352, 351(1), and 3(5) of the Bhartiya Nyan Sanhita and relevant sections of the Railway Act.”

Pandhari Kande, Senior Police Inspector from Kalyan Railway, said, “We have also filed an FIR against 15 to 20 people who allegedly unlawfully gathered at the railway premises and were pelting stones, causing the glasses of the booking office to break.”

Speaking with FPJ, Yashwant Palwe, Assistant Police Inspector, from MIDC Police Station said that a chain-snatching case was registered on November 1 at the MIDC police station. Based on CCTV footage and technical intelligence, we found the location and name of the accused.
