Raipur/Gariaband: Three Maoists reportedly killed in an encounter with security forces on Chhattisgarh-Odisha border on Friday.

Three Maoists were killed in an encounter with a joint team of security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, police said.

The joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG )and Special Task Force (STF) comprising 300 security personnel executed the operation.

As per information received, a joint team of security forces were dispatched to jungles of Nabarangpur situated between the bordering area of Chhattisgarh and Odisha for combing operation on the concerted intel input of presence of armed Naxals in the area.

However, after reaching the spot, exchanges occurred between both Naxals and security forces resulting in the killing of three Naxal. Gariaband SP Nikhil Rakhecha has confirmed that three bodies of three Naxals have been recovered after the encounter from the site.

Along with the bodies, the search team also recovered, huge cache of arms and ammunition including several automatic weapons.

It has been informed that police got input that armed Naxals from Bastar sneaked into the forest of Gariaband to get shelter. After which police planned the operation.

The search operation is still under progress. Meanwhile, the process of identification is under progress, the police said.

Police have also increased vigilance in the surrounding areas.
