Bhopal/Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Three people died and 14 other were injured when a speeding pick-up truck overturned in MP’s Ujjain district early on Tuesday morning. The pick-up truck carried 24 passengers– almost double than its capacity.
The pick-up truck was carrying labourers from Mahidpur tehsil to Ratlam when the accident occurred. As the truck was overloaded, it lost balance and veered off the road at high speed and overturned, trapping the laborers underneath. Locals rushed the injured to the hospital and informed the police about the same.
According to information, the deceased victims have been identified as Kanchan Bai, Jasoda Bai, and 15-year-old Balaram. Out of the fourteen injured, Maya Bai, Rekha Bai, Payal Bai, and Rambha Bai are in critical condition. The pick-up truck was filled with majorly women laborers who were on their way to harvest peas in nearby fields. The driver, who has not been identified yet, fled the scene and is on the run.
Locals, who saw the accident occurr, informed the police about it immediately. Police arrived at the scene and called 108 ambulance. The critically injured have been sent to Ujjain district hospital for treatment & ten others are receiving care at Mahidpur hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the matter and have assured that the driver will be apprehended promptly.
