Vasai: Three people died, and one sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision between two speeding two-wheelers at Suraksha Smart City in Vasai East near Mumbai, on Saturday night. The accident occurred around 8 pm on a stretch of road in the Madhuban area, known for its sparse traffic and poor street lighting, which often encourages speeding and even illegal races, according to reports quoting the police.
Details Of The Accident
The victims included Jiyalal Yadav, 60, and Wakil Mahendra, 50, who were returning from work on an Activa scooter. They were heading toward Vasai station to catch a train to their home in Goregaon. Their Activa collided with a Hero Honda Splendor bike driven by Rakesh Verma, 35, with Vikas Daud, 30, as the pillion rider, reported Hindustan Times.
The collision caused all four to be thrown off their vehicles. Yadav, Mahendra and Verma died on the spot, while Daud sustained severe injuries. He is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Vasai, according to an officer from the Waliv police station.
Passersby immediately informed the police, who arrived at the scene, conducted a panchnama, and sent the bodies for autopsy. A case was registered against both riders, Yadav and Verma, for rash and dangerous driving.
The police highlighted that the road where the accident occurred is particularly hazardous. The stretch is open, lacks traffic signals or speed breakers and has ongoing construction work related to Suraksha Smart City. This combination of factors has led to a rise in accidents in the area.
Locals Raise Concerns For Effective Traffic Control Measures
Local residents and motorists are increasingly concerned about safety and have demanded effective traffic control measures on this route to prevent further incidents. They are calling for the installation of speed breakers, improved lighting, and possibly stricter law enforcement to curb speeding and racing on the road.
