Palghar, Maharashtra: Three individuals were arrested in Maharashtra’s Palghar district for allegedly disrupting an anti-terrorism protest, police officials said on Monday.
According to the Mira-Bhayandar-Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police, a case was registered against the trio for provocation, attempting to disturb public peace, and hurting religious sentiments. They were taken into custody on Saturday, an official from the Nalasopara police station confirmed.
The incident occurred during a protest in Nalasopara against the recent Pahalgam terror attacks. The protester, staging a demonstration on April 25, reportedly used a Pakistani flag to symbolically condemn terrorism.
However, the three accused allegedly objected to the use of the flag, forcibly removed it, and got into a heated argument with the protester. Despite the protester’s attempts to explain the symbolic purpose, the accused allegedly verbally abused him.
Following the altercation, the police invoked sections 152 (acts endangering sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
