The Government of India has informed in Parliament that soon 295 illegal Indian migrants can be sent back from the US. Earlier, complaints of alleged derogatory behavior and handwriting with migrants who returned to India from America on 5 February were reported. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs expressed its concern to the US on this issue and lodged a strong objection.

Government’s response and taken steps

CPM MP in Rajya Sabha, John Britas asked the government what steps have been taken against the sending of illegal migrants wearing hands. In response, the central government said that India has strongly opposed this behavior from the US. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, US officials assured that migrants sent to India, especially women and children, were not handed over on February 15 and 16. On reaching India, the authorities also talked to the migrants and confirmed it.

295 more Indians preparation for return

According to the Government of India, the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the US has informed India that 295 more Indian illegal migrants will be sent back soon. Currently all these are in custody of American officials and their documents are being investigated.

How many Indians are living illegally in America?

MP John Britas also questioned how many Indians are living illegally in America and plans to send back how many. To this, the government replied that the US has not yet shared detailed information in this regard. However, since February 5, 388 illegal Indian migrants have been sent to India.

The Government of India is closely watching the return process of illegal migrants and is constantly communicating with the US on the issue.
