Navi Mumbai: A woman, with the help of her lover, allegedly got rid of her alcoholic husband by making him drink liquor and throwing him into a creek in Balkum, Thane, while he was completely intoxicated. The woman and her lover have been arrested by Rabale MIDC police.
The incident came to light after the woman identified as, Poonam Kalidas Waghmare (28), filed a missing person report at the police station on May 20. However, the police grew suspicious of her statements, interrogated her thoroughly, and eventually uncovered the crime. As the missing husband has still not been found, the police have arrested both the woman and her lover under charges of abduction.
The accused woman lived in Ambedkar Nagar, Rabale MIDC, with her husband Kalidas Waghmare (30) and their two children. “Kalidas was a habitual drunkard and used to assault Poonam regularly after drinking. She shared this distress with her friend Suresh Hariprasad Yadav (24), who in turn verbally and physically confronted her husband,” a police officer from Rabale MIDC police station said.
Over the time, the accused lady got romantically involved with Yadav and decided to get rid of her husband. On the night of May 16, under the pretext of returning house keys, Yadav visited Kalidas.
“Yadav took him out for a drive in his rickshaw, offered him alcohol, and once Kalidas was unconscious, took him to the creekside in Balkum, Thane, and threw him into the water with the intent to kill. We have not found the body of Kalidas yet,” senior police inspector Sunil Waghmare from Rabale MIDC police station said.
To avoid suspicion, Poonam went to the Rabale MIDC Police station on May 20 and filed a missing complaint of her husband Kalidas. However, the police found her statements suspicious and interrogated her further.
During questioning, she revealed that her lover Yadav had intoxicated Kalidas and thrown him into the Balkum creek. Following this confession, the police arrested both Poonam and Yadav.
