The deceased has been identified as Shubham Chaudhary, 27, a resident of the Golden Park area in Kalyan. Chaudhary was pursuing a diploma in lab technician studies; recently, he was looking for a job.

Deepa Shukla, health officer of the health department of the KDMC, said, “Shubham’s body did not show any marks of a dog bite; therefore, he did not take the rabies injection on time. On December 10, he suffered head and body injuries.”

Speaking with FJP, Mahesh Chaudhary, the father of the deceased, said that on the night of December 10, his son Shubham suffered from head and body pain and was unable to drink water.

Thereafter, he was taken to Rukhmani Bai Hospital, where the doctor referred him to Kalwa Hospital in Thane, and then to Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai where he was in ICU. He was declared dead on December 12.

Mahesh Chaudhry said that his son was walking around the society at night when a stray dog bit him. After that, he was bitten by a cat. However, he did not show any injuries, so he did not take any anti-rabies vaccine.
