Mumbai: A 25-year-old youth from Wadala was cheated out of Rs.6 lakh with the promise of a job in the railways. The Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg police have registered a case against Anil Kachre for allegedly committing fraud. The case was registered on January 2.

According to the police, the complainant, Saurabh Bhopale, resides in Wadala East and works in a private company. He had been looking for a permanent government job. He came into contact with the accused, Anil Kachre, through an acquaintance in January 2023.

Kachre promised to secure him a job in the railways and demanded Rs.6 lakh for the arrangement. Bhopale paid the amount in cash between January 2023 and June 2024.

To convince Bhopale of his claim, Kachre provided him with a fake appointment letter purportedly issued by the Railway Recruitment Board. However, when the promised job did not materialise, Bhopale grew suspicious and inquired with the railways. It was then that he realised he had been defrauded.

Bhopale approached the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg police station and filed a complaint against Kachre. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
