Mumbai: A tragic road accident in Borivali West claimed the life of a 25-year-old youth, identified as Sunil Vishwakarma, a resident of Nalasopara East. The accident occurred when a speeding tempo collided with the auto-rickshaw he was traveling in. Following the incident, the tempo driver fled the scene. The MHB Colony Police have registered a case against the unknown tempo driver and are scanning CCTV footage to track him down.

About The Case

According to police reports, Sunil Vishwakarma and his father, Rajendra Vishwakarma (56), had traveled to Yogi Nagar on New Link Road, Borivali West, for work on March 13. After finishing their work, they boarded a shared auto-rickshaw around 9 PM to return home. However, shortly after leaving the pickup point, a speeding tempo crashed into the right side of the rickshaw.

The collision caused severe head and leg injuries to Sunil, who was seated on the impact side. Seeing his son bleeding profusely, Rajendra panicked, while the tempo driver fled the scene without offering any assistance.

Sunil was first taken to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was shifted to Apex Hospital and later admitted to KEM Hospital in Parel on March 15. Despite multiple attempts by doctors to save him, Sunil succumbed to his injuries on March 20. The doctors confirmed that his death was caused by severe head trauma.

Following Sunil’s death, his father, Rajendra Vishwakarma, filed a complaint against the unknown tempo driver. Based on his statement, the MHB Colony Police registered a case under Sections 134(A), 134(B), 184, 106, 125(A), 125(B), and 281 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to reckless driving, causing an accident, and fleeing without providing medical assistance.

The police are actively scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify and locate the absconding tempo driver. Authorities are also seeking witness statements to gather more information about the hit-and-run incident. The investigation is ongoing.
