Palghar, Maharashtra: A 25-year-old man was brutally beaten to death while celebrating a friend’s birthday in the Santosh Bhuvan area of Nalasopara late Sunday night. Police have registered a murder case against five individuals in connection with the incident.

Saurabh Anil Mishra (25), a resident of Chheda Nagar, Nalasopara West, had joined friends Sachin Sharma, Vivek Gupta, and Sonu Khan Alias Kaifi to celebrate Vivek Gupta’s birthday at Abhinandan Hotel in Santosh Bhuvan around 11:30pm. While en route to pick up another friend, Sarfaraz Abbasi, their motorcycle, driven by Saurabh, grazed Kaushik Chavan, who was standing near Mahura Bal Vikas School.

This led to a heated altercation, with Kaushik Chavan reportedly hurling verbal abuse at Saurabh’s mother and sister. Kaushik’s brother, Ajay Chavan, joined the confrontation. Despite Saurabh’s attempts to explain that the motorcycle had not caused any harm, both brothers began assaulting him.

When Saurabh’s friends tried to intervene, they were also met with aggression. The situation escalated further as Kaushik’s parents, Avdhesh and Sunita Chavan, and neighbor Sunil Sonawane arrived and joined the assault. Kaushik then retrieved an iron rod from his home and struck Saurabh on the head, causing severe injuries.

Saurabh lost consciousness due to excessive bleeding. He was rushed to a private hospital, but due to his critical condition, he was referred to a bigger hospital. After being transferred to several hospitals, he was finally admitted to Icon Hospital in Nalasopara East, where he succumbed to his injuries around 2:00am.

Police have registered a murder case against Kaushik Chavan, Ajay Chavan, Avdhesh Chavan, Sunita Chavan, and Sunil Sonawane.
