Chunabhatti Police probe suicide case linked to alleged infidelity | Representational Image

Mumbai: A 59-year-old retired man has accused his daughter-in-law and her friend of abetting his son’s suicide. According to the complainant, who resides in the Chunabhatti area, his 24-year-old son had a love marriage in 2020. The couple also has a two-year-old child. After marriage, the son and daughter-in-law lived in Yavatmal for some time.

The complainant stated that even after marriage, the daughter-in-law continued to maintain contact with her male friends, which often led to arguments between the couple. He informed the police that during last year’s Navratri festival, his son had gone out to play dandiya, and in his absence, the daughter-in-law invited her friend over and was caught in a compromising position when the son unexpectedly returned home.

Despite catching them red-handed, the son forgave his wife and gave her a chance to change. However, when she failed to break off her extramarital relations, the 24-year-old man died by suicide by hanging himself in Mumbai on April 18, reportedly due to his wife’s continued infidelity.

Following his death, the family returned to Yavatmal. There, they discovered a letter written by the deceased, in which he described the emotional turmoil he had been experiencing due to his wife’s behavior. A month after the funeral, the family returned to Mumbai and checked the deceased’s mobile phone. To their shock, they found a video recorded by the deceased in which he named his wife and two of her male friends, and left a message for his father saying: “Papa, don’t spare them.”

The father also went through his son’s WhatsApp chats and was stunned to read messages from the daughter-in-law’s lover, one of which said: “Die soon so I can keep your wife happy.” Chunabhatti Police have registered a complaint and are investigating the matter.
