Navi Mumbai: Uran police has booked a 24-year-old lifter machine operator after a 64-year-old watchman lost his life in an accident at a freight shipping container yard in Uran, on Wednesday midnight. The victim died on the spot after a lifter machine ran over him.
The deceased, identified as Eknath Ragho Patil, was on duty when the incident occurred at Khopta in Uran. The lifter machine was being operated by accused identified as Mohammad Aslam Jaish Mohammad Khan (24).
Khan, originally from Uttar Pradesh, was engaged in lifting containers when the accident happened. He told police that he failed to notice Patil’s presence due to poor visibility.
“The yard was dark. Our investigations revealed that while shifting containers, the accused did not ensure safety measures which crushed the victim, causing severe injuries to his head, face, and other parts of the body,” a police officer said.
A case has been registered against Khan at Uran Police Station under Section 106 (death by negligence) and Sections 125(a) and (b) (recklessly endangering human life) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
