‘Mickey 17’: Hollywood’s mega budget flop

This film is neither from Bollywood nor South Industry. We are talking about Hollywood’s science-fiction film ‘Mickey 17’, which was released on 7 March 2025. The film’s director Oscar winner Bong is June and the film is based on Edward Ashton’s novel ‘Mickey 7’. This includes artists like Naomi Eki, Tony Chole, Steven Youn and Mark Rafalo.

OTT released after cinemas

The film ‘Mickey 17’ had high expectations as a lot of work was done on its visuals and advance technology. After the tremendous response received by Bong June Ho’s previous film ‘Parasite’, the expectations of the audience also increased. But its complex story and slow pace disappointed the audience. Shortly after the release of the film, the prime video was streamful.

Makers deficit billions of losses

According to Wikipedia, the total budget of the film (production and marketing) was around $ 198 million, or about Rs 16,936 crore. Whereas at the box office, the film earned only $ 90.5 million (about Rs 7,741 crore). In this way, the film caused a loss of about $ 100 million, or about Rs 8,553 crore to the makers. It is considered to be the biggest flop film ever in 2025.

Good rating from critics

However, critics appreciated the film and gave it a rating of 7.2 out of 10. The film is now available on prime video from March 25 and is expected to perform well on streaming. Many times it happens that films that do not perform well in the theater are liked on the OTT platform. Films like ‘Blade Runner 2049’ are examples of this.

It remains to be seen whether ‘Mickey 17’ can win the heart of the audience on OTT.
