2025 monsoon update in India: Expected for better monsoon than normal

The Meteorological Department of India (IMD) has predicted that this year monsoon will be better than normal in the country. This prediction is especially good news for agriculture and India’s economy, as the agriculture sector contributes about 18 percent to India’s GDP (GDP) and a livelihood of more than 42 percent of the population is still dependent on agriculture.

Monsoon time: June to September

According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), half a month of heat in India, especially in May and June, is badly hot. The monsoon begins around this time, and people eagerly wait for the monsoon route and date in North India. IMD chief Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that this year the monsoon season (June to September) is likely to rain more than normal, and cumulative rainfall may be up to 105 percent of the long -term average of 87 cm.

Relief from El Nino

This year the condition of El Nino is unlikely to develop, which usually causes lower monsoon in India. Typically, the monsoon knocks in Kerala around 1 June and goes back to mid -September. The monsoon entering India via Kerala reaches Central India and then in North India via Western India (Maharashtra). During this time, clouds raise heavy rains while thronging. People struggling with intense heat expect relief from the sun, while in the monsoon season, people request the strong rain from Indra Devta.

Extreme Rainfall

According to the IMD, if there is 204.5 mm or more rainfall in 24 hours at a place, it is called extremely heavy rainfall. In addition, when daily rainfall at Weather station of a city is recorded the most for that month or season, it is considered exceptionally heavy rainfall (exceptionally Heavy Rainfall). In the last two years, in the month of August, many parts of the country have been receiving very heavy rainfall.
