Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Road accidents during the Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj in UP claimed over 202 lives in areas on the borders of MP. In reply to a question raised by legislator Dinesh Rai, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav gave the information to the House on Friday.

During the Maha Kumbh, 552 road accidents occurred on MP borders where 944 people sustained injuries. As many as 144 men, 50 women and eight children were killed in road accidents.

Yadav also said during the past one and a half months, 1, 656 people lost their lives in road accidents in the state. Out of 1, 656 people, 152 were killed for not wearing helmets and 26 died for not wearing seatbelts. Because of violating traffic rules by these people, 40 people lost their lives.

Most of the deaths occurred because of rash driving, the Chief Minister said. Fast driving led to the death of 1, 026 people, he said. Similarly, 90 people were killed for violating traffic rules, and 56 people died at black spots.

Drunk driving caused only one accident

According to the data provided by the government, only one road occurred due to drunk driving. There was no loss of life in the accident.
