Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) seized 200 kg of non-standard polythene bags in the city and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the hoarder on Monday. The action was part of the IMC’s ongoing drive against banned plastic.

To note, as per the instructions of divisional commissioner Shivam Verma, the IMC is running a strict campaign to stop the use of banned polythene carry bags in the city. A team of the IMC received a tip-off that a person was carrying polythene bags on a vegetable cart in Sudama Nagar D Sector. The team raided the cart and found the information true.

On interrogation by Ward 82 inspector, the cart owner disclosed the address of the hoarder who lived in New Dwarkapuri Colony. Assistant crime scene investigator (CSI) Rupesh Makasare reached the spot and recovered about 200 kg of banned polythene. CSI Ashish Kapse and health officer Avadh Narayan were immediately informed who in turn gave this information to additional municipal commissioner Abhilash Mishra.

On his instruction, a challan of Rs 50,000 was issued to Govardhan Porwal of New Dwarkapuri and the polythene carry bags were seized. Verma appealed to citizens to not use banned polythene for environmental protection. He said that the IMC would take stricter action in future if the appeal went unheeded.
