In a swift and coordinated operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Western Railway apprehended a woman accused of abducting a 2-year-old child within 24 hours of the incident. The accused was arrested on January 7, 2025, at 6 PM while traveling in the Diva-Vasai passenger train.
According to officials, the incident was reported by Guddu Devi, a 28-year-old resident of Umargam, Valsad, Gujarat. Devi lodged a complaint on January 6, 2025, stating that her 2-year-old son had been kidnapped while she was sleeping at Surat Railway Station near the gate around 1 AM. Surveillance footage from the station revealed an unidentified woman carrying the child and fleeing the scene.
A case of kidnapping was registered under ST CR No. 26/2025 U/S 137(2) BNS, and the investigation was initiated by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Surat. The CCTV footage showed the suspect’s movements at Ankleshwar and Vasai Road stations, enabling authorities to trace her route.
According to WR, RPF and GRP teams were alerted and worked in tandem to intercept the accused. Based on intelligence gathered, the accused woman was identified and arrested on the Diva-Vasai passenger train. The child was found unharmed and reunited with the family.
“This successful operation, achieved through the joint efforts of RPF and GRP, led to the recovery of the child within 24 hours. Further investigation into the case is being conducted by the Surat GRP,” said a Western Railway official.
