Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday and said that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has shut down two Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants following his letter to Maharashtra Environment Minister Pankaja Munde. He also added that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has taken action against 11 projects and issued notices to 17 in connection with air pollution.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA wrote, “During the Maharashtra budget session, I urged Environment Minister Pankaja Munde to take concrete measures and ensure strict enforcement of regulations to combat air pollution in the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune areas. Following this demand, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has shut down two RMC plants and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has taken action against 11 projects while issuing notices to 17 projects.”

“Ensuring clean air requires collective responsibility—both citizens and the administration must work together. This is just the beginning! We will continue to push for stronger air pollution regulations at the state level. We, the residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad, welcome and support the actions taken by MPCB and local governing bodies to improve air quality,” he added.

In his letter to Munde, Landge had listed eight key demands to address the issue, which include convening a meeting of the Environment Department’s high-level committee to implement concrete solutions, enforcing strict pollution control measures and immediately halting cement mix dust emissions, conducting frequent air pollution assessments and making reports publicly available, cleaning roads twice a day to reduce dust levels, taking strict action against vehicles violating pollution norms, using water tankers or air guns to suppress road dust, assessing the impact of pollution on citizens’ health and providing necessary healthcare services and ensuring proper care and regular watering of roadside trees.
