Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Azad Nagar police seized 45 cartons containing beer from a vehicle and arrested two men late on Monday. The beer was being transported to Pithampur. The accused were booked under the relevant section of the Excise Act.

Police are investigating the role of the liquor contractor as well. On the instruction of DCP (zone-1) Vinod Kumar Meena, a team led by Azad Nagar police station in-charge Vijay Sisodiya caught two men sitting in an SUV in Udyog Nagar area during their patrolling. When searched, police were shocked to see cartons containing beer. The driver could not present a licence or any document to carry the liquor.

After that, the police seized the car and 45 cartons of beer cans of two brands. Sisodiya said that the beer is about 540 liters and worth Rs 1.65 lakh. The accused were identified as Deepak, a resident of Bhanwarkuan and Gourav, a resident of Ujjain. They allegedly informed the police that the beer was loaded from the area and was being transported to Pithampur.

Number plates of two states recovered from SUV

During a search, four number plates of two states were also recovered from the SUV. The vehicle is registered from Ujjain RTO but the number plates of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat states were also found on the vehicle. Police believed that while carrying liquor illegally, the accused used to change the number plates in order to mislead the police.

Man caught with 5 cartons of liquor

In another case, on the instruction of assistant excise commissioner Abhishek Tiwari and excise controller Devesh Chaturvedi, a team of excise department, led by ADEO Gopal Yadav and excise sub-inspector Manish Rathore, caught a man while he was carrying liquor illegally in a car on Machal-Betma Road, an official said on Tuesday.

The officers recovered five cartons containing beer and country liquor from the car. Accused Ayush Modi was arrested and his car was seized by the officers.
