Kolkata: Amid violence on minorities in Bangladesh, two elderly women Adho Burman (90) and Kanju Balal (74) on Friday were sent to 14 days jail custody after they illegally entered India.
On Thursday late evening both the women got arrested by BSF in the Kaliaganj area in North Bengal and were handed over to police. On Friday after being produced before the court the court gave them 14 days jail custody.
Notably, talking to the media, both the elderly women said that they are devotees of ISKCON and also that they have been facing constant threats in Bangladesh for which they came to India.
“The Hindus cannot stay in Bangladesh. Our lands are being taken and houses are being torched. At this age I didn’t know what to do so I came to India. Our temples and idols are also being vandalized,” said Adho Burman.
Surendro Burman, son of Adho Burman who stays in India since 1999 said that he wishes to keep his mom with him in her last few days.
Meanwhile, incidents of infiltration are also reported where the fencing on the border is either not there or is weak. Though the BSF is keeping strict vigil on the borders, there are several areas of unfenced borders mostly at North Bengal’s Cooch Behar, Malda and Murshidabad.
