Indore (Madhya Pradesh): ‘Jal Ganga Jal conservation campaign’ will be run in the district from March 30 to June 30. Under the campaign, not only will new ponds be built but old ponds, stepwells and wells will be renovated and rejuvenated.

Under the campaign, intensive tree plantation will also be done. For this, a detailed action plan has been prepared in the district that will start from March 30. It was informed in a meeting held at the collector’s office on Saturday.

Water resources minister Tulsiram Silawat presided over the meeting. Collector  Asheesh Singh, CEO of Zila Panchayat  Siddharth Jain, Zila Panchayat president Reena Satish Malviya, MLAs Usha Thakur, Manoj Patel and Madhu Verma along with other public representatives and officers of related departments were present in the meeting.

It was informed in the meeting that under the campaign, initially water conservation works will be done in ponds, water sources and temples of historical, cultural and religious importance.

Amrit Sarovar 2.0

Under the campaign run last year in the district, 101 new Amrit Sarovars were built. Action will be taken to register these Sarovars in the revenue records. In the campaign, a target has been set to construct 19 new ponds under Amrit Sarovar 2.0, on which about Rs 4.18 cr. is likely to be spent. So far 10 sites have been selected, while the remaining will be selected by GIS method by March 30.

Encroachment to be removed from ponds

Under the campaign, the demarcation of ponds will be done. New ponds will be recorded in the revenue records. Action will be taken to remove encroachment by marking the encroachment on the ponds. Special landmarks will be built to show the boundary of the ponds. The ponds will be deepened with public participation and renovated and strengthened with MNREGA and other schemes. Inlet capacity will be increased to increase the inflow of water in the ponds. Plantation will be done near the ponds. Maintenance will be done by forming user groups.

Catchment areas of rivers to be expanded

Water conservation and augmentation work will be done in the watershed area of important rivers of the district. The work will be completed within a year by preparing an action plan based on remote sensing and field surveys. Gabion structure, trench, plantation, check dam pond etc. works will be done with community help.
