Mumbai: A 17-year-old girl’s visit to a friend’s house for a birthday celebration turned into a horrifying ordeal after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by an unidentified man. The incident came to light when a medical examination revealed that she was over three months pregnant. Following this, the JJ Marg Police registered a case under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections, launching an investigation.

According to police sources, the victim, a resident of Kalwa, had attended a birthday party at her friend Sunita’s house in the Fort area on December 15. During the party, an unidentified man reportedly lured her into a bathroom, sexually assaulted her, and then threatened her not to disclose the incident before fleeing the scene.

Fearing social stigma, the minor girl remained silent about the assault. However, she recently experienced severe stomach pain, prompting her to visit JJ Hospital for a check-up. During the medical examination, doctors confirmed she was three and a half months pregnant. Since the victim was a minor, the hospital authorities immediately reported the incident to the JJ Marg Police.

After recording the victim’s statement, the police registered a case against the unidentified accused. As part of the investigation, they plan to question her friend Sunita, hoping to gather information that could lead to the suspect’s identification. Since the crime occurred in the Fort area, the case will be transferred to the relevant police department for further investigation, officials said.
