An Islamic school in Kaura Namoda district caught fire
A statement issued by the National Emergency Management Agency said that an Islamic school caught fire on Wednesday in Kaura Namoda district of Zafara state in Nigeria. About 100 children were present in the school when the fire broke out. The agency said that at least 17 children have died in the fire, while 17 children were seriously injured. These children are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the district. The agency has said that it is not yet clear what causes the fire in the school. However, preliminary investigation suggests that the fire was attached to a pile of wood used for oral hygiene. It is locally known as “Kara”. It was collected around the school.
President said Tinubu expresses concern over the fire incident
Nigerian President said Tinubu has expressed concern over the fire incident and expressed condolences to the afflicted families, saying that he is sympathetic with the victim families. He appealed to schools to prioritize the safety of children. The incident of school fire in Nigeria has created concern across the country. Last month, an explosive equipment burst at a school outside Nigeria’s capital Abuja, killing two people and injuring two others. The previous incidents were due to the government’s failure to implement the recommendations developed in 2014 under the Safe School Initiative of Nigeria, which was aimed at protecting schools and students. Tinubu ordered regulatory officials to ensure compliance of instructions.
