Thane: A 16-year-old ninth-grade student died by committing suicide by hanging himself in his home while his parents took away his mobile phone to prevent him from playing games. The deceased has been identified as Aman Sahu, 16, a tenth-grade student who was studying at a school in city. He lived with his parents and one younger sister in Netivali village in Ambernath.

The police said that Sahu had recently passed his ninth standard, and his parents had enrolled him in classes for the tenth syllabus. However, Sahu was persistently engaged in playing games. Despite receiving warnings, he did not concentrate on his studies.

On Wednesday, his father took away the mobile phone when he noticed that Sahu was busy continuing to play games. According to Hill Line police, upon confiscating the mobile phone, he became upset. He took the drastic step to end his life by hanging himself in the afternoon on Thursday.

The police said that on Thursday, a father who worked as a salesman in a Mumbai-based private firm left home in the morning while his mother was outside the home. He locked the door inside. Following this, the parents knocked on the door repeatedly but received no response. Afterwards, the window was broken open, and they discovered that he was hanging.

Anil Jagtap, Senior Police Inspector from Hill Line police station, said, “We received information about a boy who committed suicide because his parents harshly asked him to study while preventing him from playing games on his mobile phone. During the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the mother was outside the home while Sahu was locked inside. He went to the kitchen and hung himself using a nylon rope. So far, we have registered an accidental death report. Further investigation is ongoing.”

The police said that the boy was taken to Central Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The dead body was handed over to his family members for final rites after performing the final rites.
