Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a tragic incident, a 16-year-old boy addicted to playing PUBG ended his life by consuming a poisonous substance under the Chhatripura police station limits of Indore district.

The boy had been suffering from depression after losing his mobile phone on a train while returning to Indore from his native place in Bihar two months ago.

Unable to play his favourite game, he became distressed and demanded a new, expensive mobile phone from his parents. He had even warned them that he would take his own life if his demand was not met.

Father asked him to wait for salary

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Prince (16), son of Sanjay Shah, a resident of Adarsh Indira Nagar. He was a student of Class 8. His father worked at a hotel, and he had two brothers and a sister.

His father said that Prince was addicted to playing PUBG and had lost his mobile phone on a train near Patna while returning to Indore from Bihar around two months ago.

He was distressed after losing his phone as he could not play anymore. He had been persistently asking his parents for buying a new mobile phone worth Rs 20,000. His father assured him that he would buy one after receiving his upcoming salary as he could not afford such an expensive mobile phone immediately.

Mother was ready to mortgage her mangalsutra to buy phone

On Sunday, Prince insisted that his mother buy him a new mobile phone immediately. When she told him to wait until the next day, he threatened to take his own life. His mother tried to pacify him, saying she would mortgage her mangalsutra to buy him a phone. However, Prince refused to wait, insisting he needed the phone the same day.

In frustration, Prince left the house and later returned after consuming cockroach poison. His family members realised what had happened when he started vomiting. They immediately rushed him to the hospital, where he died during the course of treatment on Monday.

The police have launched an investigation into the case and are recording statements from family members.
