Mumbai-The death toll from GBS (Guilan-Bar syndrome) in Maharashtra has increased to four with the death of another patient in Pune. With this, the number of GBS patients has reached 140.
A 60 -year -old senior citizen living in Dhapari area on Sinhagarh Road in Pune died on Friday, it is suspected that he was suffering from GBS.
According to the information given by the Health Department of Pune Municipal Corporation, the elderly patient started having diarrhea and feeling weakness in the body. He died of a heart attack on Friday after being hospitalized on 27 January.
According to the information given by the State Health Department, 140 possible cases of GBS were reported in the state, out of which 98 patients have confirmed GBS based on lab tests. Of these, 26 patients are from Pune city, 78 patients from villages included in Pune Municipal Corporation, 15 patients from Pimpri-Chinchwad, 10 patients from Pune Rural and 11 from other districts.
No new GBS case came to light on Friday. The highest number of cases in Maharashtra have been reported in Pune and surrounding areas. That is why 160 water samples collected from different parts of Pune have been sent to the laboratory for testing. When the water sample of a private well was examined in Sinhagarh, e-coli bacteria were found in it. Therefore, water and samples have been collected from Sinhagarh Road area and sent for testing.
Meanwhile, apart from Pune, the health system has become alert after GBS cases in Nagpur, Akola, Satara and Karad.
