A video of a 14-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district being forcefully dragged reportedly to her in-laws house after being married-off without her consent to a 29-year-old man from Bangalore is making rounds on the internet. 

In the video, the girl is heard screaming and pleading. However, the groom, who has been identified as Mathesh is seen lifting the girl in his arms and continues to walk ahead. A few ladies can also be seen in the video. The marriage reportedly took place on March 3. 

Police Intervention 

The girl after getting married on 3rd March had escaped to her grandmother’s house. However, on wednesday Mathesh reached the girl’s grandmother’s house and forcefully took the girl away. Soon after this the girl grandmother filed a police complaint. 

The Denkanikottai police took prompt action and rescued the girl while she was being taken to Bengaluru. On Wednesday the Police arrested five people in connection with the child marriage case. Among the arrested were Mathesh, his brother Mallesh, the girl’s mother, the girl’s father, Mallesh’s wife Muniyammal. 

The arrested individuals were booked under sections of the POCSO Act and the Child Marriages Act.The victim, a Class VII dropout, was sent to a govt-run one-stop centre.
