Mumbai: Around 14 constructions in Goregaon West, which were hindering the widening of Swami Vivekanand (S.V.) Road, were demolished on Monday. As per the city’s rehabilitation policy, the affected residents have been provided with financial compensation or alternative housing. This demolition will help accelerate the progress of the SV road widening project, claims the civic official.
The P South ward’s proposal to widen SV Road was affected by constructions existing before 1960. As a result, only 12 meters of the total 27.45 meters (90 feet) width was available for traffic. Due to the narrow road, traffic congestion used to occur during morning and evening hours. So to resolve the issue under the road widening policy P South ward had issued eviction notices to 14 buildings along the route.

“The civic team removed these buildings, clearing approximately 500 meters of road for traffic. This includes buildings like Ashish Building, Anant Niwas, and the Adani Electricity substation. As per the rehabilitation policy, affected residents have been compensated or provided with alternative rehabilitation. The road widening initiative will alleviate traffic congestion on SV Road ,” said a civic official.
