Pune: 100 IPS Trainees Join PMC’s Large-Scale Deep-Cleanliness Drive in Bhawani Peth for Swachh Survekshan 2024 |
In line with the Swachh Survekshan 2024 initiative, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) successfully organized a large-scale deep-cleanliness drive in Bhawani Peth and surrounding areas early Saturday morning.
The drive took place from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM and aimed to enhance hygiene and cleanliness in key areas, including Lal Mahal, Shaniwarwada Chowk, Belbag Chowk, and Maruti Chowk.
The initiative was led under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, and various municipal departments were also present during the cleanliness drive. The drive witnessed active participation from over 100 IPS trainees, officials from Yashwantrao Chavan Development Administration Academy (YASHADA), and members of local sanitation cooperatives.
“This initiative reflects PMC’s dedication to fostering a clean and hygienic environment for citizens,” said Dr. Milind Kalashetti, Deputy Director General of YASHADA. He praised the collective effort of all participants, including local leaders and sanitation workers, in making the campaign successful.
The campaign achieved significant results, including the removal of 5.5 tons of garbage and 6.2 tons of debris, the elimination of illegal banners from 15 locations by the Sky Sign Department, the clearing of street and footpath obstructions by the Anti-Encroachment Department, and tree pruning in key areas by the Garden Department.
To ensure smooth execution, a fleet of vehicles, including JCBs, dumpers, compactors, and cranes, was deployed. The drive began with participants taking a cleanliness pledge, symbolizing their commitment to the cause. In addition to cleanup efforts, PMC took strict action against violations of cleanliness norms, imposing fines totaling ₹8,500 on 20 individuals and shopkeepers.
The drive is a step forward in enhancing civic awareness and maintaining Pune’s clean and green city reputation.
