New Delhi: In the midst of the scorching heat in North India, several states including Delhi-NCR suddenly received heavy rainfall with a sudden thunderstorm, due to which a total of 10 people were killed, including 4 in Delhi, 4 in Uttar Pradesh and two in Chhattisgarh. In many states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, there was a water bomb -like situation, due to which the transport was disrupted. Electricity supply was interrupted at some places. The Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms, hailstorm and rain in many states of North India for the next three days.

Due to heavy rains in Delhi, a tree fell at a house in Najafgarh, causing the house to collapse and an entire family was buried in its debris. However, police and fire department officials took out family members and admitted them to a hospital in Jafarpur Kalan. However, the doctor reported that three children, including a woman, have died, while one person is undergoing treatment. The temperature dropped by 10 degrees due to sudden rains in Delhi.

More than 100 trees were uprooted and more than 200 flights were affected at many places due to strong winds and dust storms in the national capital Delhi. Delhi received 78 mm rainfall in just three hours on Friday morning, the second highest rainfall in May between 2009 and 2025. Earlier in 2021, 119 mm rainfall was recorded. Heavy rains led to waterlogging in many areas of Delhi.

Many areas including Gorakhpur and Basti in Uttar Pradesh received rain with thunderstorms, storms, lightning and hailstorm, which destroyed the standing crops of farmers. Four people died due to lightning in Gorakhpur and Basti. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the affected families and directed the officials to provide assistance to them within 24 hours. Apart from this, Chief Minister Yogi also instructed the farmers to assess the damage caused by rain and give immediate compensation to them.

Scenes of cars were seen in many cities of Uttar Pradesh including Mathura, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad. Normal life was disturbed in many cities due to waterlogging. People had trouble going to office in the morning. Traffic jams also occurred due to waterlogging at many places.

In Chhattisgarh too, normal life was disturbed due to heavy rains and storms. Raipur was blowing winds at a speed of 70 kmph. Two people died due to lightning in Bemetara. Power supply was disrupted at many places due to heavy rains.

Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was blocked due to landslides due to heavy rains in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. Many vehicles got stuck due to landslides in Seri Chamba due to landslides and falling on the soil highway. A flood situation arose in the Chenab River. Hail also fell with rain in Shimla and surrounding areas, the capital of Himachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of rain in states like Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Tripura in the next few days. There is a possibility of dust storm in Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in Himachal Pradesh till Thursday.
