Indore (Madhya Pradesh): This financial year, about 48.25 lakh electricity consumers of West Discom have received subsidy benefits and it is expected that by the end of March this year, the total subsidy disbursed would exceed Rs 9,300 crore, with over Rs 7,000 crore already distributed so far.

Rajani Singh, managing director of the West Discom, stated that all eligible consumers were receiving subsidies. Indore district led with the highest number of 6.5 lakh beneficiaries followed by Ujjain, Dhar, Dewas, Khargone and Ratlam.

Subsidies were being distributed regularly across all districts in the region, she said. Singh highlighted that under the Atal Griha Jyoti Yojana, subsidies exceeding Rs 1,815 crore had been allocated for approximately 34 lakh consumers.

Additionally, around 4.75 lakh eligible Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe consumers engaged in agricultural activities received free electricity, with a subsidy provision of Rs 2,580 crore for the financial year.

Under the Atal Kisan Jyoti Yojana, nearly 10 lakh farmers had received subsidies worth Rs 4,587 crore. Farmers using motors above 10 HP had been provided Rs 148 crore in subsidies, while Rs 149 crore had been allocated for 67 high-pressure lift irrigation schemes connected to high-voltage connections. She emphasised that the state government was committed to making life easier for the public by reducing electricity bills and supporting the needy through subsidies.

Regular reviews at the headquarters, regional and district levels ensured that all eligible consumers received their benefits. Feedback on subsidy distribution was also systematically collected to improve the process, she added.
