Hingoli Election Raids: ₹3 Crore Worth of Valuables Seized from 405 Locations |
The assembly polls in Basmath, Kalamnuri, and Hingoli constituencies in Hingoli district were held recently. During the implementation of the model code of conduct till the end of the election process, the administration conducted raids at 405 places and seized valuables and other articles worth ₹3,18,54,358 in all three constituencies. Unaccounted cash, jewellery, drugs, liquor, and other sedative articles were seized during the raids.
The model code of conduct was implemented in the district between October 15 and November 25 under the guidance of District Election Returning Officer and District Collector Abhinav Goyal and SP Shrikrushna Kokate.
The entire election process was conducted peacefully. Polling was held at 1,023 polling centers on November 20 in all three constituencies, and 9,84,764 voters exercised their franchise through the electronic voting machines (EVM).
During the implementation of the model code of conduct, several teams were established to restrict illegal businesses, which included the flying squads, stationary squads, and video shooting squads. These teams conducted actions at 405 places and seized illicit liquor, narcotic drugs, and other sedative articles worth around ₹3 crore.
The administration seized 13,766 litres of illicit liquor amounting to ₹19,71,120. Similarly, 29 kgs of marijuana worth ₹2.97 lakh were seized, along with Gutkha and weapons worth ₹30.39 lakh. Unaccounted cash was also seized during the raids. The stationary squad seized ₹40 lakh cash in two jeeps in Hingoli city, ₹95 lakh cash in Basmath, and ₹65.47 lakh at other places. All the seized cash was handed over to the income tax department for further action.
